Vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience
- Webinar
In this interactive one-hour webinar, we will explore the linked concepts of vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience. As many healthcare workers already know, hearing and engaging with difficult and disturbing stories can lead to vicarious trauma. Vicarious trauma involves the transformation of a worker’s inner experience and world view. The concept of vicarious resilience (coined by researchers Hernandez, Gangsei and Enstrom in 2007) demonstrates that the worker’s transformation may also be a healing experience. Workers may experience both vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience at the same time. We will consider how to mitigate the impacts of vicarious trauma. Participants in this webinar will also apply the concept of vicarious resilience to their own work.
