Exploring Substance use and Impacts During COVID-19
Recent research shows that we are using up to 40% more alcohol, opioid deaths are the highest ever in BC, and people are reporting more concerns about their substance use. Usually substance use is considered in the work context only when there are safety concerns or when a worker exhibits extreme behaviours and problems doing their job. Mike Mathers will cohost this session and show you why understanding substance use on a continuum, rather than as an all or nothing approach can help prevent those serious work impacts and can help improve people’s lives. He has been treating individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders for more than 15 years. He will share his insights, some neuroscience tidbits, and his unique perspective, and some practical tips and tools.
