Managing Grief
Within healthcare, especially long-term care, health care workers can be exposed to death on a semi-regular basis, yet not much training or discussion of how to cope with death, and the resulting feelings of grief, is provided. During this webinar we explain grief and how it can be expressed in many different ways; reminding attendees that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. We also discuss the negative consequences that can occur when we don’t take time to grieve. We offer a reflective activity that gives HCAs the opportunity to reflect on past personal experiences when they have dealt with death and invite them to take time to explore what grief means for them. We then share different ways staff can come together and support each other in grief, whether it is through a formally organized ritual or an informal confidential conversation.
